Megabits per second This term often seen as Mbps is used by Internet Service Providers to distinguish the amount of bandwidth available on any given connection. For instance High-speed DSL Providers will advertise terms such as 6 Mbps download speeds. Given that there are 8bits for every byte that maximum you will receive on a 6 Mbps should average around 768 KBps (Kilobytes per second). This should not be confused with MBps which is (Megabytes per second) and identifies a much higher connection speed.
